Ro Yourell announces headline at Whelan’s Upstairs

Singular Artists proudly presents Ro Yourell live at Whelan’s Upstairs Dublin, on Sat 24th August.

The Dubliner, who has been hailed as one to watch in 2024 by both the Irish Times and Irish Independent, shares his new single ‘Incinerate’ today Friday, 1st March.

‘Incinerate’ is a song propelled forward by Yourell’s impressive falsetto and hypnotic guitar. With Delorentos currently on hiatus, particularly since becoming a father, Yourell has had the creative impetus to explore big themes, as his previous singles have shown. In this vein, ‘Incinerate’ surely must be the proverbial jewel in the crown – a smouldering song you can imagine playing on a nighttime drive, with Yourell’s timely lyrics urging us to shun apathy and embrace agency.

“We, the people of the Western world, enthralled with consumption and convenience, are steadily losing our agency and our empathy to apathy. The siloed nature of modern life, where algorithms reheat our preferences, makes it more and more difficult to think let alone act outside of the box. The forecast is stormy weather,” says Yourell

Ro Yourell’s upcoming album Commencer was co-produced by Yourell and Tommy McLaughlin(Villagers, Ailbhe Reddy, Bell X1, Soak), Commencer was recorded at Attica Audio Recording Studio in Co. Donegal.

Ro Yourell says of his debut solo album:

“Commencer reflects on a life learned through the prisms of family, religion and the myriad other systems that we create to enhance our experience, but which can become an end in themselves.

“I am a product of my society, but as a forty-something shapeshifter I am fortunate to have the experience and some awareness to stand back, to reflect on how these elements have shaped and continue to shape me. Commencer is a journey towards acceptance, but more than that, it is a challenge to myself and anyone who cares to listen, to recognise and cherish that which is truly precious.”

Yourell’s debut solo single, ‘Freedom’ and his first track of 2024, ‘Dance With You’, have garnered widespread airplay across stations like Today FM, RTE 2FM, Radio Nova, KCLR FM, 98FM, FM104 and more. ‘How My Heart Beats’, released in late 2023, was dubbed one of the best Irish songs of November by Chordblossom and named one of the best 100 Irish songs of 2023 by The Last Mixed Tape.

Yourell is best known for his work as a member of Delorentos, a band that’s enjoyed massive success in Ireland and internationally, and is now on hiatus while its members pursue other projects. The four-piece has played stages worldwide and racked up an RTÉ Choice Music Prize win for their acclaimed third album Little Sparks in 2012.

Yourell’s solo sound focuses on meditative, intimate lyrics with a distinct poetic flair and driving melody. Follow Ro Yourell across socials for news of new music and upcoming live dates.
