Josh Orange: new album & Whelan’s gig

Gordon Burke Aka lead singer with Josh Orange hails from Drimnagh Dublin 12.

The son of The Royal Showband guitarist Fergus Burke. Gordon grew up surrounded by musicians and often climbed over a few on his way out the door to school.

At the tender age of 18 he joined Dublin band Both Ends Burning, as their drummer. On discovering he didn’t get royalties for the songs he had not written, the young lad quickly got his dad to teach him the guitar, and brought two songs of his own to BEB just prior to his 19th birthday.

And that’s where it all started. Gordon went on to form Dublin four piece Suddenly Smith as the frontman and main songwriter, and was quickly introduced to Pete Holidai who worked closely with the band on a number of recordings.

Their most well known “Breakthru” would break the Irish top 30 and see the band take out Hot Press Band of the Year in 1995.

In 1997 Gordon moved to Sydney Australia where he lives now, and formed the band Josh Orange with his great friend Andrew Wass.

The band released their fifth studio album “Birds For The Bayou” on June 28 2024. Over the past 20 years the band have received numerous accolades from songwriting competitions in USA and Europe. JO finally got some real traction in Australia with their fourth album Midnight Lights, gaining them a nice following, four AMRAP Metro No.1 Singles and sold out live shows.

Gordon returns to Dublin for a one off show in his favorite Irish venue Whelans on Aug 7th.

It is sure to be an amazing night with songs from across numerous albums and a reunion with some great friends and musicians. Don’t miss this one off event.
