The Irish Writers Centre is honoured to present a special in-person masterclass with writer Sean O’Reilly on Saturday 24 May 2025 at the Yeats Society, Sligo, as part of its new Writers in the Regions initiative.
Taking place from 10.00am to 3.00pm, the event offers a valuable opportunity for writers of all levels to deepen their craft under the guidance of one of Ireland’s most distinctive literary voices.
Writers in the Regions is designed to expand the Irish Writers Centre’s reach beyond the capital, connecting with the vibrant literary communities across Ireland. The programme brings experienced, acclaimed writers into regional venues, supporting writers on every stage of their journey through accessible, high-quality learning experiences.
Sean’s masterclass will focus on narrative perspective, exploring the critical question of who tells the story. Writers will examine the relationship between narrator and story, and how the choice of voice can shape meaning, structure, and emotional impact.
Sean O’Reilly said of the upcoming masterclass,
“The author discovers a narrator, who discovers a character, who is discovering a story, all done in front of the reader, who rediscovers the limits of the reading self. In this masterclass, I want to help writers understand that the choice of point of view is primarily about the nature of the truth a fictional story is actually able to create, and the relevance of that truth in today’s world.”
Mags McLoughlin, CEO, Irish Writers Centre said of programme,
“Through our Writers in the Regions programme, we’re thrilled to be working with Sean O’Reilly – an inspiring and uncompromising literary figure – and the Yeats Society in Sligo to deliver this exceptional learning opportunity for writers based in the west and beyond.”
