Pebbledash ‘To Cast the Sea to Concrete’

Cork risers Pebbledash release the anticipated new EP To Cast the Sea in Concrete (5th November).

Released ahead of the bands headline UK and IE tour, Pebbledash have also recently gained a high profile sync on new Netflix series House Of Guiness.

Recorded by Cathal MacGabhann (Altered Hours) and mixed by Andy Killian (Pretty Happy), the EP showcases more of the band’s unique blend of post-punk aesthetics, blended with emotive shoegaze, folk, grunge and alt-rock tendencies. Capturing the essence of Pebbledash’s evolving sound, the EP moves from sprawling intimate songwriter to some elegantly constructed instrumental moments, encapsulating a year of growth, change, and reflection for the band, ‘the EP highlights Pebbledash’s continued evolution, blending atmospheric tendencies with an undertone of Irish folk and a gritty, grungey finish.

Talking about the EP, Cormac Donovan O’Neill: “The environment in which we recorded these songs – a secluded makeshift studio minutes outside the city, but still surrounded by green on all sides and within sight of the River Lee – ended up both informing and reflecting the conceptual through-line of the EP as a whole, emphasising the contrast and interaction between natural and urban, hard and soft, land and water. We were all familiar with Cathal’s fantastic recordings with other Cork bands, and we immersed ourselves in recording what we feel are our strongest tracks to date in the studio, where artists like The Altered Hours, Elaine Malone and O Emperor have made such wonderful bodies of work.

With this EP, we wanted to display to the fullest extent our development not just sonically but thematically, and present something that coheres as a whole, bringing the listener into its world from beginning to end.”

Pebbledash have built a growing reputation as both a live band and on record. Building a whole host of acclaim, including support across BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X (X-Posure Hot One), NME (New Bangers), RTE (online, 2FM), Clash, Dork, Hot Press, Nialler9, Psychedelic Baby Magazine, Far Out, District Magazine and Golden Plec among others, the band have also become a firm favourite of So Young, appearing among the magazine’s tracks of the year and playing live So Young nights including a UK tour with Cardinals and Mên An Tol. The band has also gained significant Spotify Editorial playlist support, appearing on New Music Friday UK, Fresh Folk, The Indie List, Hot New Bands, melomania, Breathe of Fresh Eire and Fresh Finds to name a few.
