Bren Berry launches new LP ‘In Hope Our Stars Align’ in Vicar Street

Dublin native and former Revelino guitarist Bren Berry took to the stage last night with host Tommy Tiernan, treating us to a demo from his new LP, as well as a chat. He spoke about his leap into solo singer/songwriting and his confidence watershed inspired by Bob Dylan and lockdown reflections on his own mortality.

But this is no bundle of Dylanesque songs, this 12 track LP is more in the genre of the Stone Roses or Joy Division, with Berry’s deep, purring vocals laid over by an atmospheric, eclectic mix of instruments, from strings to synth. Revelino fans will be pleased to hear the familiar driving guitar rhythm throughout, with a sumptuous and rich production in a package of solid rock songs.

The themes derive from Berry’s own experiences and passions, from a honeymoon in New York decades ago, to the Save the Cobblestone campaign. All deeply rooted in Dublin city, from his childhood in the city centre to his long vocation in Vicar Street itself both on and behind the stage, shaping the sacred space it represents today.
